From Darkness to Light: How Ritual Candle Co. Was Born

A while ago, I found myself in a really dark place—isolated, emotionally drained, and disconnected from everything that made me feel like me. I had lost my joy, my interests, and my sense of purpose. I wasn’t taking care of myself, mentally or physically. I didn’t feel like I was living—just existing in survival mode.

I knew I needed something to help rebuild. Something that would reconnect me to the parts of myself I had forgotten. I’ve always been a maker at heart, so I turned to something new—candle making.

But what started as a creative outlet quickly became something much deeper.

Candle-Making Became My Self-Care Ritual

Melting wax, blending fragrance oils, pouring candles by hand—these quiet, intentional moments became acts of healing. Through candle-making, I found direction, creativity, and even joy again. Slowly, it transformed from a personal ritual into a small business rooted in something bigger: self-care.

But not the kind of self-care that’s all spa days and shopping sprees (although those are nice too). I’m talking about the real, raw kind of self-care—the kind that starts with meeting your own needs and treating yourself with respect.

What Self-Care Really Means to Me

For me, self-care means taking showers regularly. Getting sleep. Moving my body. Eating foods that make me feel nourished. It means setting boundaries. Walking away from things that aren’t serving me. And maybe most importantly—it means practicing compassion and patience with myself.

There’s no direct link between candles and self-care, I get that. But for me, lighting a candle became a symbol of taking one small moment for myself. One inhale. One pause. One quiet ritual that reminded me I’m still here—and I’m still worthy of care.

Why I Create Candles for Self-Care

That’s why I started Ritual Candle Co. Every candle I pour is a reminder: to slow down, to reflect, to reconnect. I name each candle after a self-care practice or nostalgic memory—something to ground you, inspire you, or simply bring you peace.

For example, “In Love” isn’t about romance—it’s about being in love with yourself. “Sun Kissed” is a gentle nudge to go outside, soak in some vitamin D, and remember that warmth still exists—even on the hard days.

These candles are more than fragrance—they’re tiny rituals of healing. And while I’m still on this journey myself, lighting a candle reminds me to keep showing up for me.

The Heart of Ritual Candle Co.

I created Ritual Candle Co. as a way to share that healing. To offer not just beautifully made candles, but to gently encourage others to prioritize their well-being, too. To create sensory experiences that feel safe, nostalgic, and grounding. To remind us all that self-care is not selfish—it’s survival.

If you’ve ever felt lost, unseen, or unworthy of care—I want you to know: you’re not alone. You deserve peace, rest, and rituals that bring you back to yourself.

And if one of my candles can be a small part of that for you, it means more than you know.
